Is Chevy American?

Chevy is part of General Motors, a conglomeration that calls Michigan its home. That said, GM is a global corporation, with headquarters in 35 countries, ranging from Japan to Mexico to Brazil, Canada, and beyond. But where is Chevy made? Chevy may have a global presence, but it prioritizes American manufacturing. For instance:

  • The Chevy Colorado is exclusively constructed at a factory in Wentzville, Missouri.
  • Most Chevy Silverados are constructed in Springfield, Ohio, and Flint, Michigan.
  • 71% of Chevy Colorado parts are built in the U.S. or Canada
  • 62% of Silverado parts are made in the U.S. or Canada
  • The majority of OEM Chevy components are built at 38 US factories

Foreign-made parts are most often implemented in electronic systems and cargo spaces. So who makes Chevrolet parts from other countries? These parts are built at:

  • Five Mexican companies
  • Four Japanese companies
  • Two South Korean companies
  • Two French companies
  • Three Canadian companies
  • Three Brazilian companies

General Motors partners with brands in other countries as well to streamline production as needed. Chevy parts have been manufactured in Egypt, Hungary, Ecuador, Thailand, Columbia, and Argentina as well. So, who makes Chevy vehicles? The world does. After all, Chevrolet is operating on a global market and requires a global infrastructure to scale. Still, General Motors continues to prioritize the U.S. economy when it comes to manufacturing Chevy models.
