Our service department wants to help you keep your car running in top shape, so we’ve put together the helpful guide below on how to check oil level in a car.

How to Check the Oil Level in a Car in 6 Steps

Checking car oil regularly is an easy thing you can learn that will help your car’s engine continue running for years to come. All you have to do is to follow the simple steps below. Of course, if you need any help at all, feel free to schedule a service appointment with us. Here’s how to check the oil level in a car:

How to Check Car Oil

  1. Make sure the car is off, and the engine has had enough time to cool down.
  2. Open the hood, and locate the dipstick.
  3. Pull out the dipstick, and wipe it clean with a rag or paper towel.
  4. Stick the dipstick back in all the way.
  5. Pull out the dipstick again, and examine the tip.
  6. The oil should reach from the end of the tip of the dipstick to the top of the crosshatched area. If the oil does not reach the crosshatched area, add a quart of oil.

How Often Should Your Car’s Oil Be Checked?

Now that you know how to check car oil, how often should you do it? A lot of Valrico drivers check their oil every other time they fill the gas tank. Many experts recommend once every two weeks. Either way, you should be in good shape. You will also want to check your oil before going on a long trip.
